The Hargreaves Foundation supports Sports Aid

December 2020

The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are pleased to confirm funding has been awarded to SportsAid to support 22 para-athletes from the South West.

A SportsAid athlete and their family will spend over £7,000 each year in meeting the costs of their sport. These costs, incurred by travel, competition entry, training and equipment are rising year on year and for athletes with a disability, these can often be even higher.

“Many young athletes face financial challenges.  A large percentage of SportsAid athletes remain in education, with no income of their own. The financial cost of being an aspiring para-athlete places an unnecessary burden on young people who have ambitions of fulfilling their potential and representing their country.  Funding through SportsAid awards helps to reduce this burden.  We look forward to following the progress of the 22 para-athletes.”
